FAQ
How does this program help?
This program allows our road maintenance crews to concentrate on keeping the road itself in good shape for motorists. Your participation in cleaning up litter and debris from the roadside improves your community’s landscape and makes it a nicer place to live and work.
Who can apply?
Individuals, families, businesses, charitable organizations, schools, churches – pretty much everyone! Safety is our priority, so prospective volunteers should be in good physical condition with good eyesight and hearing. Minors may participate with the authorization of a parent/guardian and with sufficient adult supervision during clean-ups.
What will this cost us?
A little time and energy is all we ask from you – no monetary cost is required. There is no cost for your Adopt-A-County Road sign or for the trash bags and safety vests needed during clean-ups.
What roads are available and how large of a stretch can be adopted?
We generally ask that you adopt a minimum of one mile. If you have a specific road in mind, you can contact us to see if it is available or go to http://adoptaroad.macombgov.org to view our map of available roadways.
How big is the Adopt-A-County Road sign?
The Adopt-A-County Road sign is 24” x 24” and the name plate is 12” x 24”.
How long can our name be on the sign?
There is a maximum of 20 characters/spaces per line and two lines per sign.
How involved is a roadside clean-up?
Before cleaning a road, participants should contact our Adopt-A-County Road representative for required safety vests and orange trash bags. Participants then meet at a designated location (carpooling is encouraged) and walk along the adopted roadside while picking up litter and debris. Safety precautions are a must! Be sure all participants view the safety brochure and video.
What if we miss a clean-up?
We do understand that it is sometimes difficult to coordinate dates for clean-ups for groups and can allow for a missed clean-up occasionally. If we do not receive word that you cleaned your roadside over a period of one year, we will contact you directly to see if you are still interested in remaining an Adopt-A-County Road parent. Roads that are not cleaned for more than one year without notice from the adopting party may be subject to cancellation of the adoption.
